On the other hand, the constituents too, are vastly indifferent to the way we are ruled. But, there are exceptions. In the eighth episode of Sleepwell Foundation Presents Zindagi with Richa—Season 5, it's the story of Bhakti Sharma, the dynamic Sarpanch, of Barkhedi Abdullah village, a 25-minute drive from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. A woman who puts public work first. After Bhakti contested and won the panchayat election, five years earlier—she was expected to be a rubber stamp for the actions of the panchayat, and give-in to the feudal and patriarchal pressures prevalent in rural India. But that was never to be. This educated, America returned, civil service aspirant, didn’t let her image be cowered. She transformed a below poverty line village into a model village, carving its own place on the map as an Adarsh Gram. Her work gave her recognitions, far-flung — to The UN. She is involving more women in the gram sabhas, empowering them, as she believes in the potential of women's power.
